About BNSF
A Vital Connection between Goods and Customers.
Cars are lined
up on a dealer's lot, gleaming under the warm glow of nearby
street lights. The latest clothing choices hang on a rack in a
store. A boy and girl challenge each other's scores on a
hand-held video game.
For more than 150 years, BNSF Railway has been quietly delivering
cars, coal, clothing, games, and nearly anything else found in
homes and businesses. When the predecessors to BNSF Railway first
started operations, we were building a nation by shrinking
America's borders. On Feb. 12, 2010, BNSF became a subsidiary of
Berkshire Hathaway, Inc. Our focus is on using speed, agility,
and resourcefulness to help expand the global marketplace for
goods and services.
Today, BNSF Railway plays a vital role for people around the
world every day of the year, magazines are published on paper
delivered by our trains, medicines are carried for distribution
to hospitals and pharmacies, produce is shipped from farms to
markets... the list is endless.
All this is accomplished by a BNSF Railway team that is
progressive, vital, resourceful, and approachable. Through
contemporary, world-class people, processes, and technology, BNSF
Railway provides an easy, relevant choice for all types of
shippers in a wide variety of locations.
Our People
The people who work at BNSF are the ones who drive the railroad to success. BNSF people are from all areas of the country and have a variety of skills. BNSF is focused on keeping the railroad moving forward, meeting customers' needs and serving the communities where our employees live and work.
Our Railroad
Today's BNSF
Railway is the product of nearly 400 different railroad lines
that merged or were acquired over the course of 160 years.
While many different railroads combined to form BNSF, the people
who worked at those railroads shared many traits. The people who
built BNSF were - and continue to be - a unique breed, blending
the forward-thinking of dreamers with the pragmatism of
results-oriented business leaders. This heritage played a central
role in settling and growing the American West, and today, BNSF
continues to have a significant impact in meeting the needs of
shippers and serving the economy.
